It started with some simple requirements (combine two legacy apps) and "back of the napkin" drawings. What emerged was the backbone for the 2014 World Cup livestreaming and play by play experience for Univision Deportes on Android, iOS and Xbox. We worked to define the app architecture, user flows, functionality and visual design.
Across multiple devices and platforms, Univision Deportes needed a consistent visual design language and interaction patterns. We created the baseline onboarding experience for personalization and A/B tested variants to achieve a stunning end product, which showcased all of the live action and latest news from the beautiful game.
Univision Deportes broke records for traffic and sales numbers with World Cup 2014 designs, including 27.5 million uniques and 73 million digital video livestreams and an authenticated OTT user experience.
The Univision Deportes app became the #3 ranked free app in the Apple App Store and #1 among free Android sports apps in the Google Play Store, topping ~4 million downloads total within the first few weeks of release. Also voted "Best New App" in the sports category and "Best of June" in 2014 for iOS.
